Simon Tests in Clio Cup

Simon Belcher has been taking a serious look at life outside the Legends Cars Championship with a test in a Renault Clio at Mallory Park last week.

The Elf Renault Clio Cup is well known as a direct feeder to the British Touring Car Championship and Simon chose one of the leading teams, Amery Motorsport, for his test.

The former European Jet-Ski Champion adjusted well to his first taste of a front wheel drive racing car running on slick racing tyres. "Yes it's totally different to Legends. Despite parking it in the gravel on my first lap the test went very well. It's a geat little car to drive and I really had fun. The guys from Amery were really good too and very professional."

Underlining his potential away from Legends Simon finished the third session only one tenth of a second off the team's previous quickest time around the Leicestershire circuit.

"The Clio Cup cannot be ignored," he added. "It has regular live television coverage on ITV each Touring Car weekend. Even the non-Touring Car event at Silverstone saw over 100,000 spectators through the gate over two days."
