Simon Closes on Stephen at Donington Handy Motorsport came away from Donington Park with another healthy points haul which keeps them firmly well inside the top ten of the championship. "Although the race meeting was the first one-day event of the year - most of our outings are two dayers with six races - this was always one we were looking forward to," said Simon Belcher. "The meeting saw one of the biggest crowds of the season we've seen so far as we were racing with the British Truck Racing association who regularly pull in their own fans plus new ones who are curious to see motor racing for the first time. Add to that the fact that Donington is the place on everybody's lips at the moment as it will be home to the British Grand Prix from 2010. It's a superb place to race." It was a typically hard day's work for Belcher in the number 11 KÄRCHER car - the 25 car field providing plenty of competition as usual over the three races. Simon was targeting top six finishes and 5th in the first race, 8th in the second and then, having been one of the top scorers in the two heats, 7th in the third race from the back of the field. Stephen Treherne in the second KÄRCHER car finished 7th and 6th in the opening races but had to retire from the third. There was no doubt that the non finish would hit Stephen's championship ranking and he has dropped one place to fifth although he still leads the 'Team Car' standings very convincingly. Simon's points tally however means that he remains in sixth in the championship and poised to battle with Stephen for fifth. "The next round is
up at Knockhill in Scotland," says Simon. "It's been a while since I've
raced up there although it's another event we are looking forward to as
we will be appearing with the British Touring Car Championship. There's
the prospect of our racing featuring live on ITV4 that weekend."
