World Finals - Belcher Goes Fourth in Vegas 7th December 2008 Simon Belcher has secured fourth place in the 2008 Legends Cars World Championship after taking ninth position in the last ranking event of the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in America. KÄRCHER backed Belcher, who won the final at the last UK event at Brands Hatch last month, was racing for the first time with American team Austin Legends, was in an unfamiliar car and also racing for the first time at the Las Vegas facility. "It's not really practical to have my UK car shipped out the States for one racing meeting so we did the deal with the Austin Team. In theory all Legends Cars are identical but you do get used to the feel and set up of your own car over the course of the season. Having said that the car I was provided with was very quick but we struggled with the brakes all weekend." Despite the problems Simon took fourth place in the qualifiers and then backed it up with 9th in the final. "That was enough to take fourth place in the final points standings. I am well pleased with that as it means I'm in the trophies. What a great way to finish the 2008 season - a win in front of a huge crowd at Brands Hatch and then more silverware following my first outing in Vegas." "Legends Cars is the only truly global motor racing classes that I can think of that is accessible to the man on the street," says Belcher. "Competitors from America, Canada, France, Belgium, Spain, Finland, Ireland and the UK all compete so it's one of the most cosmopolitan. We race at home most of the season but there are opportunities throughout the season to race against other nationalities. This year I've competed against the best drivers from all those countries and I think it's been one of the toughest ever seasons. With global finances the way they are this has to be the most cost effective motor racing going." "I'd like to thank all the team and our marketing partners for their support this year. I'm looking forward to next season and climbing further up the rankings."
