27th March 2010
Well the
eagerly awaited start to the 2010 championship is finally here, Oulton
Park in Cheshire played host
for the first round of The 2010 Legends Cars Championship. With a full
grid of 30 cars which included no less than 10 rookies, a difficult task
lay ahead both #11 Simon and #12 Stephen.
Warm-Up
The track was damp with drying patches so caution was the name of the
game during the warm up. Simon came home in 7th position on
the timing sheets with Stephen in 10th.
There was very little to taken from the warm up times as it was
extremely hard to get a clear run with so many cars on the grid.
By the end of the session the Legends boys had created a dry line for
all the other classes.

At Last It’s Time To Go Racing Again …
Round 1 Heat 1
The 1.660
miles (2.656 km)
Fosters
circuit was dry & ready for some close racing, 29
cars made up the first grid just 1 short of a full grid, added to that
there were no less than 4 previous UK Legends champions, we were set for
some action packed racing. Stephen set about making his way through the
field from his 8th row start, right behind him on the grid
was 2009 Champion #1 Lee Fitzpatrick. Despite a couple of incidents and
a couple of laps behind the safety car all went quite well. Simon’s
progress was not going to be too straight forward as he was starting
behind former champion #32 Peter Morton, in Simon’s words “at times it
was a real dogfight out there, I didn’t expect anything else with so
many former UK, European & World champions out there”. Both drivers’ got
their cars back safely with #12 Stephen finishing 4th and #11
Simon 0.434 seconds behind him in 5th.

See You Back In The Paddock …
Round
1 Heat 2
Yet
another dogfight on track, “nobody out there wants to give a place, you
have to be so careful trying to stay out of trouble” said Stephen who
came home in 5th place. Simon had to settle for 7th
spot in a race that involved “as much defensive driving as I can ever
remember in a Legends race” said Simon.
Round
6 Final
A
frustrated Stephen made quick progress through the traffic taking the
lead at the start of the 4th lap & despite 2 appearances by
the safety car held on to the lead to take the top spot and 2nd
place overall on the day. With so many cars on the grid the first 2 laps
of any race are very important, and the last thing you want is to get
“baulked in” early on in the race. Sadly this is what happened to Simon
who finished the race very frustrated 10th place.
