2010 Legends Cars Championship -
Round 4, Cadwell Park 16th May 2010

It was back to The Lincolnshire Wolds & Cadwell Park for Round 4 of The 2010 championship is finally here, Oulton Park in Cheshire played host for the first round of The 2010 CPC Legends Cars National Championship. With a full grid of 28 cars which again included no less than 5 former champions, 4 from the UK & 1 from the Scottish. A good ball draw would be welcomed by both #11 Simon and #12 Stephen.

Warm-Up
The standard damp track awaited the cars as they went out for warm up. For the 1st time this season Stephen was the quickest in warm up, Stephen came home in 3rd position on the timing sheets with Simon in 7th.

Again today little could be taken taken from the warm up times as it is extremely hard to get a clear run with so many cars on the very tight & technical Cadwell Park.

As Close As It Get’s – No It Get’s Closer …

Round 4 Heat 1
It was frantic right from the start, Stephen used his pole position start to his advantage and got away quickly, a battle with #3 Marshall that lasted the whole of the first lap ensued. The pair crossed the start/finish line at the end of the first lap side by side, with Stephen getting the inside line going into the left hander at the end of the straight which enabled him to take the lead, a lead he held until the final lap. With Stephen unable to shake off the attention #3 he had to settle for 2nd place following a last lap manoeuvre by the #3 car. Simon was yet again on race pace, at what is probably one of the most technical circuits on the Legends calendar. Unfortunately Simon was suffering from under steer for the whole race and had to settle for a well earned 7th spot.

Round 4 Heat 2
A pole position start in heat 1 meant Stephen was off the back of the grid for this heat. Simon had made great progress through the field and was up to the 6th place when he was tagged by the #49 car driven by David Ward at the bottom of the mountain, the bump caused damage to the steering on Simon’s car, he managed to nurse the car home down in 18th place. Stephen’s fate seemed no different he had a coming together with #66 Whitelegg and eventually finished in 9th.

Simon made the perfect start from his middle of the grid start and by the end of the 2nd lap had made a clear break at the front with #1 Lee Fitzgerald. Stephen meanwhile was battling his way through the pack from way down the grid. Simon & Lee had put a large gap between themselves & the rest of the pack, And with #11 reeling in #1 with every lap the inevitable for this season so far happened, there was an incident down the field involving #96 O’Brien car which lead to the appearance of the safety car, which closes up the field, all that good work undone. When the safety car went in 1 lap later, Simons car was again tagged this time by #55 Power which put him on the grass & allowed the #5, #12 & #19 cars to come by. Stephen managed to claim 4th spot which gave him 3rd overall on the day.
