2010 Legends Cars Championship - Rounds 6 & 7, Lydden Hill
26th/27th June 2010

Sunshine and Legends was the order of the weekend at Lydden Hill Circuit in Kent for the 6th & 7th rounds of The 2010 CPC Legends Cars Championship, The Kärcher Handy Motorsport Team with drivers Stephen & Simon would be looking to turn their race pace into points.

This was the first visit of The Legends Championship to Lydden Hill in 9 years, which meant that most of the drivers would have little or no knowledge of the circuit, whilst only a mile long, Lydden still remains a very testing circuit, with many undulation changes.

 Round 6 Warm-Up
Today’s warm up held increased importance as it was the first time the drivers had been around the circuit in a long time, in fact Simon has never raced here & Stephen had only ever driven the oval circuit.

It’s Tight Around Here …

 Round 6 Heat 1

Stephen went of row 3 of the grid with Simon 2 rows further back, it did not take the boys too long to find the pace with Stephen bringing the #12 car across the line in 3rd closely followed by Simon in 4th, in a race that saw the first 4 cross the line in a little over a second. The race was marred by a serious incident involving #3 Marshall & #4 Mickell, in which the #4 car burst into flames and I am happy to report the driver walked away, albeit slightly singed.

 Round 6 Heat 2
When you have 21 cars on a very short circuit there are always going to be very few opportunities to get through the pack, that did not stop Stephen who notched up the fastest lap of the race on his way to another 3rd place. Simon finished in 7th position.

Round 6 Final
Both the Karcher cars had made their way through the pack and Simon was trying to pass Stephen around the outside of Pilgrims when he found what is known in racing as “The Marbles” – a dirty piece of the track where traction becomes difficult, Simon then proved the theory that a Legends car going uphill on grass is very hard to control, Stephen was not going to be distracted by Simon’s excursion and eventually finished 2nd behind Stephen Whitelegg took his first ever win in a Legends car.

Round 7 Heat 1

Another top 3 finish for Stephen who finished 2nd just 0.209 seconds behind #3 car of Ross Marshall, Simon came home in 7th position.

It’s Very Tight Around Here …

 Round 7 Heat 2
Two cars in the top 5 was very satisfactory in what has proved to be a difficult place to race Legends cars. Simon finished in 5th & Stephen finished in 2nd place again whilst also getting the fastest lap of the race on his 5th lap.

Round 7 Final
This was not the teams best race of the weekend, Simon finished in 12th & Stephen finished in 5th, his first time out of the top 3 all weekend. However even a 5th place could not stop Stephen taking the top spot in the championship.
