2011 Legends Cars Championship - Round 11, Oulton Park

20th August 2011

The Kärcher Handy Motorsport Team travelled north to Oulton Park in Cheshire for round 11 of The 2011 Legends Cars Championship, The circuit which is set in the grounds of Oulton Hall is characterised by its rapidly changing gradients and blind crests leading into unforgiving corners.

Following the summer break it is finally time to resume ‘The Championship’, with 23 cars lining up on the grid which includes ‘Triple British Rally Champion’ Mark Higgins. Driver & current championship leader Stephen Treherne will be looking for some nice points from this single header in order to keep him at the top of the championship table.

Just Like The Championship #12 In Front With #4 Close Behind …

Round 11 Warm-Up
Stephen’s warm up session was fairly insignificant due to an oil leak which was putting oil on to the tyres of the #12 car. This resulted with Stephen being 18th on the timing sheets, a time that should bear no comparison to his race pace.

Round 11 Heat 1
Despite Stephen’s 8th row start on the grid he made good early progress, he was in 12th place at the end of the 1st lap. 3 more good laps saw Stephen up to 8th on lap 3 before the safety car came out, for the next 2 laps. In went the safety car and the race commenced again, but it was not to last too long for Stephen as he hit oil on the track at Cascades dropped by #41 Bunn when his engine blew. An expensive DNF followed.

Round 11 Heat 2
This was one of the closest races I have seen in Legends for some time with the first 6 cars so tight together you could have throw a blanket over them. A 6 car battle the ensued for the whole of the race with positions and places changing at every corner. Stephen was right in the thick of the action holding every position from 1st to 5th during this action packed race, had it not been for a coming together with #32 Morton, where their bumpers locked together at Old Hall, who knows what may of happened. Stephen eventually finished 6th, whilst his nearest rival in the championship finished 22nd.

Round 11 Final
The perfect end to a day that started far from perfect, Stephen got down to it very quickly and was in 3rd spot by the end of the first lap, moving up to 2nd by the end of lap 2, his progress was then halted when the safety car came out for 1 lap. It was then back down to the business of getting to the front and he did by the start of the 5th lap & that was where he stayed until the chequered flag.
